Beats are a type of recording that’s typically an instrumental and provides the backing track or structure to your song. They can be found online via websites and YouTube. Although these beats can provide the perfect accompaniment to your verses and chorus it’s important that you have the right licensing permissions in order to distribute your release digitally.
Please note, if you have created your beat using software such as Logic Pro X you won’t need a license for this as it is your own curated beat.
In order to get everything cleared for digital release you will need to contact the beats creator and request a license that covers the below:
1. Confirmation that the beat licensor controls all rights in the beat (that’s the copyright in the composition and the sound recording)
2. Confirmation that the beat licensor is providing a license to you the Spinnup user in respect of all those rights mentioned in point 1, so that the Spinnup user can commercially exploit the new track containing the beat on all digital services.
3. Confirmation that the beat does not contain any third-party samples or other third party material or that if it does, they have been cleared.
4. The license needs to be valid for more than a year as the distribution agreement between Spinnup and you, the user is for at least 1 year.
Bear in mind that most beat licenses typically cap the number of downloads and/or streams of your new track covered under the license. Please make sure that the license allows sufficient use of your track and that you monitor usage to ensure you obtain a new license before the caps are exceeded.
Once you have obtained this from the beats creator please contact our support team who can ensure the license is reviewed by our legal counsel.
